Tutorial: Headband Holder!

I will be the first to admit: I have WAY too many headbands.

It all started about a year ago when I was growing out HALF of my bangs (to make them less thick/crazy looking) and that's basically THE most awkward hair situation a girl can find herself in. So I got a couple headbands which remedied the strange two-length-bangs phenomenon. Then I found myself up at BYU where everyone loves slapping huge flowers all over their heads, and of course I wanted in on the fun, so I started collecting flower headbands like crazy. Then my roommate and I got into this staying up til 3:30 am talking on school nights phase, and I would roll out of bed at 9:30 every morning for my 10:00 class and throw on a colorful flower headband to try to look presentable and distract people from the huge circles under my eyes.

So through all of these experiences that I'm sure you are glad you took the time to read about, I collected many, many headbands. They are pretty much an addiction.

Well, headbands are kind of hard to organize. I'd just throw them on my shelf and they'd get tangled up in this ridiculous mess. I finally looked up ways to organize them and found this cute headband holder idea!

I was going to make it a few nights ago, but instead I ended up laying on the couch eating Swedish Fish until I passed out into a sugar coma and woke up an hour later wondering where I was.

But back to the tutorial:

First, find an empty canister around the house that you can use. Make sure to test it to see if your headbands fit well on it. I found a Country Time Lemonade canister. You could also use an oatmeal container, hot chocolate canister, or I even found a Lysol cleaning wipes container that would have worked, but it was full.

Well, I kind of cheated. The lemonade canister still had powder in it, so I dumped it into a ziploc bag. Shhh... My momma doesn't know yet!

I am SUCH a good daughter.

Find some cute fabric or scrapbook paper and measure it out against your canister. Cut it up and glue that sucker on there! I used a hot glue gun and it worked like a charm. Except it burnt my thumb. But its ok. Headbands are worth the sacrifice.

Try not to be TOO jealous of my photography skillz...

You can cover the lid too if you want. I was going to, but then I decided I'd rather leave it alone so I can take it on and off easily. I'm going to use the inside of my canister to put stretchy headbands and flower clips and other ridiculous hair accessories that I own too much of.

The lid needed some sprucing up, so I made a little fabric flower to glue on.

It was really quick and easy. I threw on some of my headbands to test it out. Unfortunately it won't hold all of them, but it still makes things SO much more organized.

For reals, why are my pictures so horrible??

I liked this project because it was simple and it really makes a lot of difference. I am really trying to find ways to become a more organized person, especially as I think about moving into a new apartment when I go back to college in a month. I think my old roommates will agree that my stuff always seemed to be going a little bit crazy, am I right ladies?

Don't answer that. Haha.

Now that my headbands are organized I can buy even more crazy flowers! And eat as many Swedish Fish as I want! I don't know how that ties in, but don't try to stop me. Those little fishies are addictive.

Tell me what you think of my little crafty venture!
