What Up Fashion World.

Let me tell you a story, a story of pain and then redemption.

Two years and one month ago, I was in Vegas with some of my roommates, shopping at H&M. On the lonely clearance rack in the corner, I found a pair of denim pants. They were bright blue, and they cost 8 dollars. And they fit me.

So I purchased them.

Then I wore my bright blue pants the next week, and I thought they were pretty cool, but then this girl said "Wow, your pants are so bright..." in a voice that meant "I'm judging you right now."

So I still wore them once in a while but I was worried that I looked like a weirdy wearing them. Even though I thought they rocked. Eventually I just left them at my house in Vegas because I didn't wear them very often.

NOW?

Boo yah, fashion world! I already OWN bright blue skinny jeans that only cost 8 dollars!! And even though I was too chicken to wear them before, now I WILL wear them* to blend into current fashion trends at BYU cuz' I roll like that. Lemming pride, woot woot!

*I first have to retrieve them from the back of my closet at my parents house the next time I go home.... so wearing them is still an eventual thing.

The important thing to note here is that I am way ahead of the fashion trends, and by that I basically just mean that I buy bright blue things from clearance racks whenever I can.

my 21st birthday in vegas

Friday was my 21st birthday. I went to IHOP for breakfast (thank you Ashley for having me sign up for their birthday club a year ago), and the waiter was like: "Woo! You're twenty-one, you should go to Vegassss!"

And I was like: "I am."

I spent my 21st birthday weekend at home in Las Vegas with my family. It got preeeeetttyyy WILD.

Sarah and I drove all afternoon on my birthday and got to our house Friday night and hugged my parents and dog on the driveway and ate dinner and skyped my sister and I blew out my candles on my chocolate cake. I was asleep before midnight.

On Saturday, my mom asked what I wanted to do. I said, "I really want to go to the Clark County Heritage Museum." It was my favorite place ever as a kid. It's pretty much like Disneyland, if Disneyland was a museum that taught you about Southern Nevada and had a bunch of really old, cool houses you could walk through with creepy mannequins in them out in the desert. I LOVED IT AS A CHILD. Even though we'd always go in the summertime when it was a bajillion degrees.

So we hopped in the car and drove down Boulder Highway where the museum still sits! My mom and I wandered through every house, and the memories came a'floodin' back like crazy. I hadn't been there since I was little but I remembered everything. I had crazy flashbacks of being a wee child. Best day ever.
Yup. Still as fun as when I was six. And I'm an adult.I used a slot machine for the first time in my life. An antique slot machine at the museum.
With a penny my mom gave me. Don't worry guys, I'm twenty-one now.

Today, I went to church with my family. Then I took the longest, most beautiful nap, and then ate dinner and my family watched a DVD about Jimmer.

So to sum up, for my 21st birthday in Vegas I: ate a lot of chocolate cake, went to bed early, went to a museum with my mom, went to church, and slept a lot.

Yep.
I am a clean-livin' girl all. the. way. It's the best.

Happy Nevada Day!

Let me make one thing clear: Nevada Day is a big deal to me.

The Silver State was made a part of the Union on October 31st, 1864, and so, growing up, Halloween always had another dimension. It was also Nevada Day! Yes, I grew up getting Halloween off school because of this lovely fact. :)

Nevada is where my heart will always reside. Growing up in Las Vegas made me who I am, and I think it is the best place to live in the world! I love the people of my home state: so down-to-earth and warm-hearted. I love the spirit of the West which inspires the people there. I firmly believe the desert, with its cactus and sagebrush, bright blue mountains and rocky dirt, is so much prettier than anywhere green.

Whenever I get the chance to drive home for a visit (I'm going home for the first time in 3 months in 22 days!), my heart begins to swell as the green trees fade from view, and the landscape slowly turns to desert. And when I come around that corner and see the Las Vegas Valley unfold into view, I feel like my heart is at peace.

Confession: I always sing the Nevada State song when I cross the border as I drive. It is also my favorite singing-in-the-shower song. It's just so darn catchy! Fellow Nevadan peeps know what I'm talking about. Here's a rendition by the Killers (also Nevada natives):

(disregard the large Harry Reid emblazoned upon the video... he already won. although the awkward hug at the end is priceless. and awkward. so awkward.)

I am truly a Nevada girl.

My ancestors founded several towns in Nevada when there was literally NOTHING. My grandmas on both sides grew up in tiny desert Nevada towns back before very many people lived there.

My grandparents on one side met and fell in love in Las Vegas during the 1940s when it was nothing but a dusty little western town with a few hotels and lots of desert. She was a journalist at the only radio station. He was a gunnery instructor stationed there during the war. They fell in love. He proposed. She said no. But don't worry, he tried again later... ;)

Las Vegas is also where my parents fell in love back when she was a school teacher and he had just moved there because Rebel Basketball was doing really well at the time... I mean to get his masters from UNLV.

Thanks for indulging me in my love for my state. And maybe those of you from Nevada celebrated Nevada day with me! I, for one, hugged a cactus, petted a bighorn sheep, and played in some sagebrush for Nevada day.

Just kidding. I just sang the state song all day for everyone I saw. THEY LOVED IT. No one even made fun of me. (this is a lie)

It's just so darn catchy!

Saturday Night in Vegas.

We sat in traffic on the Strip on Saturday night.

We don't visit the Strip very often--my mom, sisters and I--even as proud Las Vegas natives. We prefer sitting at home watching the Cosby Show and petting our dog and knitting. Okay, not the knitting. Usually.

But Saturday was a special night. It was a special night, because we decided to all get matching skull tattoos and then gamble our life savings.

Okay. I'm kidding.

It was a special night, because a very hot, beautiful and charming man was in town. A man with the voice of a masculine, hunk-of-righteousness angel. And his name rhymes with Mosh Hoban.

Yes, dear readers. Josh Groban. JOSH GROBAN.

Josh Groban is cool, because he sings very well. And he can sing really high and really low, and really loud and other cool singing stuff. And sometimes he sings in other languages. And he has curly hair. And he wears suit coats with jeans. For the above reasons, he is super cool.

So we headed down to the Strip (which, coincidentally, is a surprisingly short drive from our house, and by short, I mean eight minutes), and we passed all the crazy drunk people and drove to the MGM Grand Garden Arena (where, coincidentally, my older sister Jess once saw an N*SYNC concert many years ago, which made me very jealous). And then we walked in and found our seats and got ready to part-ay, surrounded by all the other concert-goers (who were, coincidentally, mostly elderly).

Jess, Sarah and I, doing our best Barney impersonation.
(we're not purple in real life. just in Josh Groban concerts. )

And then Josh Groban came on. And he sang for two hours. And it was beautiful. And I screamed out "Josh! You're so hot!" a few times, and he didn't even hear me.

And since then, we've been listening to Josh Groban all over the house, non-stop. I love him. The end.

Kandy Kismet.

kis-met-
(noun)
fate, destiny.
There I was, standing in the Smith's checkout line on a Friday afternoon, purchasing groceries for myself so that I could eat something other than tortilla chips. As I placed my items on the belt, carefully shrouding my carton of ice cream and cans of soda with my deli turkey, whole wheat bread and toothpaste (don't want people judgin', am I right?), I heard the woman ahead of me in line give a happy little shriek.

"Oh my gosh, your name is Candy?!" said the shrieker as she noticed the cashier's badge.

"Yes it is!" said Candy, the cashier.

"My name is Candy too! With a K!" said Kandy.

The universe came to a standstill. This was nothing short of FATE.

"Oh wow, how cool! I don't meet many Candy's!" said Candy.

"Me neither!" said Kandy.

"Is it short for Candace?" asked Candy the Cashier.

"Nope, just Kandy!" said Kandy the Kustomer.

"Me too!" said Candy.

"What a great name!" said Kandy enthusiastically.

Do you ever have an urge to share a personal connection in a conversation that you're not even involved in? Because it was at this point that I really, REALLY wanted to say:

"HEY! My dog's name is Candy too!!!!!!!!"

One of Candy's finest moments: dressed as a hotdog for Halloween.
No, she doesn't really have demon eyes.

Somehow I knew it wouldn't be appreciated. I'm glad I didn't ruin the moment, because believe me when I say, it was pure destiny. I'm glad I was there to witness the excitement.

I mean, if I had a dog's name, I'd be excited to find someone else to share it with too.... ;)

Cousin's Play to Wedding Day!

I am definitely a fan of people getting married, especially when I am invited to the festivities. And especially when there are beautiful decorations to ogle over. And triply especially when delicious food is involved.

Earlier this week, my cousin Melissa tied the knot with her main-man Bryan at the Salt Lake Temple. (to learn more about temples, go here.)

Melissa grew up in Salt Lake. I grew up in Las Vegas. Therefore, we didn't get to hang out a lot. But I remember being pen pals with her for a while when we were little and getting letters from her. When I went to visit Utah, we would play ping pong in Grandma's basement and dress up in old clothes from the 40's.

And once, we went to a pioneer village and Melissa provoked an angry chicken and then we had to run from it. It made the day memorable.

Mel and I circa 1999. On a horse. In heavy shade.
Big HOLLA to Jess for finding this picture for me! :)

And now, years later, Melissa is a married woman! A funny one at that. A while after she came out of the temple, she said, "I hope you write about this on your blog!!"

Anything for you girl. I mean, we survived that angry chicken together. After we lived through that,I feel like we have to be there for each other.

M + B

Sarah, Jess and I basking in the wedded bliss of the day.

I loved her beautiful, vintage-y dress, and I loved her classy dinner. She has a unique style of her own and I admire that she planned everything to reflect her own tastes.

Isn't it fun to appreciate the different styles and ideas from different weddings? I love it. This is coming from a girl who just spent her Friday night at home watching Say Yes to the Dress and eating chips and salsa. (Shut up, I'm cool...)

Congrats Melissa and Bryan! May your married life together be full of love and happiness, and not too many angry chickens. Although with spunky Mel, you never know.

;)

Living Out My Happily Ever Now.... 100th Post!

When I started this blog last summer, I had one purpose: to find the funny in everyday life.

Here I am, ONE HUNDRED posts later, still just as skilled at getting myself into embarrassing situations and then writing about it for the masses. ;) Its been a joy so far.

Where did the title Happily Ever Now come from? Well, I love fairy tales, especially the classic story where the girl falls in love and rides off to the castle to live with her prince, and they live happily ever after. But there's a problem with that. What does the future-princess do before her happily ever after happens?

it was how I got asked to a dance in high school... don't judge.

I feel like so many people are waiting: waiting to be asked out, waiting for Mr. Right, waiting for the day they finish school, waiting until they have the perfect body, waiting for their skin to clear up, waiting to have more money, waiting for a better job, waiting for their life to suddenly be amazing.... waiting for their happily ever after to come along.

I don't want to wait. I want to live in my happily ever NOW.

Everyday life is funny. Everyday life is awesome. You just have to look for it sometimes. I've had so much fun the past nine months writing my experiences and sharing them on this blog. Having a blog motivates me to look for things to laugh about, even in the hectic days. And even when I write a cranky post, I usually end up finding my stressed out self pretty funny in the end.

Since I have joined the blogging world I've met some truly awesome people.... really, so many bloggers have inspired me, and its been so fun connecting with others!

I want to give a big thank you to all the people who have made this experience so great so far... AKA YOU! It really has been so much fun and I want to celebrate my 100th post!!! Since I am about to sell back my textbooks this week, and hopefully have a little chunk of change in my pocket, I decided to use some of it to give away a 10 dollar Cold Stone gift card! Whats happier than ice cream??

Here's how to enter: leave me a nice note. Whether you're a long-time reader, an old friend, a a blog friend, a blog stalker, or a brand spankin' new first-time reader drawn by the prospect of ice cream, I just want to hear from you. Say hello, tell me something funny, tell me how you found my blog, give me some feedback or suggestions, admit to being a creeper (I totally am too, no shame), leave your blog address, or just tell me something about yourself.

And then, somewhere in your comment, let me know one thing you're looking forward to about your happily ever after, but one reason why you're enjoying your happily ever NOW.

There's no game, no gimmick, and you don't even have to become a follower of my blog if you don't want to.... because I really don't care about numbers, but I care about people, and I look forward to hearing your responses. If you want to share this with friends who also love being happy and eating ice cream, feel free to! We all love free stuff, right!?

This giveaway will end next Friday, April 22nd at midnight MST, and I'll pick the winner randomly, so check back to see if you won!

If you win you can take a friend or even a date for some ice cream!! Yeah! Although if you choose to use the gift card to go on a date, I highly recommend not taking someone who wears capes, is secretly engaged, or has problems with B.O.

Just from experience.

Amy Tries Out Hippie Life

This weekend, my amiga Kirsi and I drove down to Spanish Fork for the Festival of Colors at the Krishna Temple.

It was awesome.

As a girl who values cleanliness, civilized company and not standing in crowds of thousands of filthy people, I needed to spend a day letting go and going crazy. And being a little bit of a hippie.

Through this experience, I learned that being a hippie has its ups and its downs. Lets review.

Hippie PROS:

  • Indian chanting.
  • Getting dirty.
  • Dancing in a mosh pit.
  • Throwing chalk in other people's faces.
  • Having chalk all over your face makes your teeth look SUPER white. No need for Crest White Strips when you're at the Holi Festival!
so white. also, do you like my green unibrow?

Hippie CONS:

  • Standing in mud.
  • Claustrophobia.
  • Swallowing large amounts of chalk.
  • Walking almost three miles to and from in the cold.
  • Still having grit in your eye three days later.
Yes dear readers, today I still had bits of chalk dust in my eye, and the festival was on Saturday. I literally could barely see at school, so I had to watch sad YouTube videos to make myself cry in an attempt to wash the grit out of my eyes. I sat in the library and watched some of those compilations of soldiers coming home and surprising their kids set to emotional music. Those always make me cry.

So yes, I sat in the library watching videos of soldier dads with tears streaming down my face, feeling extra patriotic as my hippie chalk washed out of my eyes. Not embarrassing at all.

Conclusion: being a hippie was fun. But once a year kind of fun. Mostly because of the gritty eyes, NOT because I'm NOT a fan of chanting and body odor.

Because I so am.

Peace, love and rainbows and little hearts to you and yours. May all your scarves look hip and your Toms fit just right.

**PS I accidentally posted this too soon and then instead of editing it, I accidentally deleted it, and I got a comment that I never got to read! If that was you, please re-comment! Sorry!!

Laundry Room Redemption

Doing laundry at my apartment complex is like gambling.

When I drop my precious quarters into the slot of a washing machine, I never know if the machine will actually wash my clothes, or if I just threw away six precious quarters. A dollar fifty here, a dollar fifty there... GONE.

Quarters are hard to come by. There is a change machine in the laundry room, but it was broken for quite some time. It was a dark time for me, those weeks. I refer to it as the laundry famine of winter 2010. I'm still trying to forget....

I struggle with laundry. Not laundry in general, but apartment complex laundry. Communal laundry rooms down in basements. I spent a whole post outlining my personal laundry cycle. And the time I almost got shanked in a laundry room.

All the distress builds up. Every quarter lost. Every washing machine that doesn't start. Every frustration, every grumble and every single moment of sorrow until it all forms into what can only be described as a dark mountain of emotional LAUNDRY ANGST that weighs down on your soul. It builds and builds until you snap.

And then, my friends, you end up right where I was today.

After putting my detergent and my bedding into a washer, I headed over to the change machine with a pretty little dollar bill in hand.

RRRRrrrrRR.....RRRRrrRRR..... RRrrrRRR.... duddudududdddhh...

It. Got. Stuck.

Nooooooooooo!!! I didn't have any more quarters. And now the change machine was going to be broken for weeks to come. And I was going to become "the girl who broke the change machine and ruined everyone's life."

the enemy

That was the moment that the mountain of emotional laundry angst came crashing down and something within me turned from "innocent college girl" to "vicious beast of dollar bill redemption who would sacrifice anything to get my money back." I couldn't lose one more dollar. I just couldn't (cue weeping).

I looked into the machine, and saw my dollar bill crumpled up and stuck in the slot. Only a little corner was sticking out, but it was too far in for my fingers to reach.

So I yanked the bobby pin out of my hair and went at it.

Digging and maneuvering, I worked at that corner until I pulled out a little more of the crumpled bill. Grunting and sweating, I worked, pushing and angling that tiny little bobby pin. The dollar bill would come out more, then crumple in further. But it was still too far for my fingers to reach. I needed some way to grab onto the bill to pull it out.

Ten minutes passed, and it was time to reach inside for my inner McGyver.

It came to me, like a light bulb of laundry room heroism. The gum I was chewing! I quickly spit it out of my mouth, stuck it on the end of the bobby pin and poised myself for the most risky laundry room maneuver thus far.

If it succeeded, I got my dollar back.

If it failed, I would not only be that girl who broke the change machine by getting a dollar bill stuck, but I would have also ruined it by getting a piece of gum jammed up there as well.

There was no going back. Perspiration dripping off my forehead, I carefully pushed the gum-covered bobby pin into the slot and, with the precision of the surgeon, attached the gum to the dollar bill, and pulled. The result?

SWEET RESTITUTION!!!

Joy overcame me and I clutched my dollar bill to my heart, jumped up and down and pumped my fists like a giddy six year old. I was so happy it was almost ridiculous.

Okay laundry room. You're used to winning. But today? Victory was mine.

On Being a Teenager.

I have exactly ninety minutes left being a teenager!!!

These "being a teenager" years have gone by fast, and as I look back, I realize that it was all a little bit different than I expected.

Then again, my entire image of being a teenager was based off of D.J. from Full House.

I totally expected to wear groovy sweaters with shoulder pads and talk on a big chunky phone after school on my bed, and have a cute jock boyfriend named Steve who would come over and eat all our food, and I'd learn lessons about life like don't go to parties where people are drinking because if someone spills beer on you Uncle Jesse will think you were drinking it.

I thought teenagers had rocker boyfriends named Viper or rich boyfriends named Nelson and were super responsible taking care of their little sisters and went on dates to get milkshakes and typed papers on typewriters.

Wrong decade. It was definitely nothing like that.

It was more about texting, texting and more texting, immature boys, dances, movie nights, pimples, sweatshirts and jeans and many different misguided phases in fashion, summer vacations and church activities, turning 16, driving and awkward dates that never went anywhere.

My teenage years were good. There was WAY less hairspray than I imagined.

And here come my TWENTIES!!! Whoah.

The little things...

Just when I thought I would abandon the outside world forever and hibernate for the winter like a little anti-social babushka who cries at the sight of snow, HALLELUJAH IT WAS WARM TODAY!

Well... "warm"....

Like 50 degrees warm.

I wore shorts and flip flops to the park. And took a nap out on the grass with my roommates.

helloooo stranger..

It was probably actually too cold for that since our toes got a little numb.... But we did it anyways. Gotta live up the days that you can go outside and still feel your face.! Har har..

For me, its really the little things that make me happy. Like sunshine, chocolate milkshakes, and boys that treat you nice. And Sonic Limeades, BYU basketball games and sleeping in. They all make me incredibly happy.

It doesn't hurt that my birthday is this week. I'm a big birthday fan. BIG. I look forward to birthdays all year... not only my birthday, but everyone's birthday! Birthdays make me feel like this:

What a gem.

My birthday is in FOUR days. I am proud of myself for not starting a countdown after Christmas, because that is what I usually do. This year, I'm taking it as it comes. Even though I'm scared about not being a teenager anymore, birthdays are still awesome. A day just for you, with cake and presents and good friends? I'm so excited.

Although.. you know whats not cool?

Really weather? Sunshine all week and then snow on my birthday? You're killin' me.

Happy My-Pre-Birthday-Week everyone! Its a big deal.

Teenage Dream.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am only going to be a teenager for two.... more... weeks....

Actually, LESS than two weeks! Two weeks from today I will be twenty!

Bahhgurslfheithghsl... (<--- that's not German, that's me being angsty about the end of my teenage years.) Most people would be excited about turning twenty, but I am not. I LIKE being a teenager, ok!? It makes me feel young, gives me an excuse to still be a little kid when I want to be, and scares away older boys from dating me, which is sometimes an advantage at BYU. Twenty is like, being an ADULT. What is that?!?!?

Bahh.

I have been a teenager since the day I turned 13 all the way back in seventh grade. I can barely remember what I was like before I turned a teenager! I was just a tiny little deathly shy girl with scrawny little legs who wore gold-rimmed glasses and straight bangs. That's who I was when I turned a teenager. I feel like almost everything that defines who I am today happened since then! Being a teenager is all I know!!

Not only that, but I was a really good teenager! I mean, I'm glad I was good and didn't get into trouble, but did I waste my chance at rebellion?! Should I have been a little more {harmlessly} crazy? I mean, my friends and I had tons of fun times, but did I really take advantage of being a teenager?! Should I have died my hair pink? Worn more outrageous clothing? Broken curfew more often?

HAVE I WASTED MY YOUTH??????????

Luckily, 'tis not too late. I have two weeks. :)

I am dedicating the next thirteen days to living up my last chance at being a teenager!! I started today, by getting feather hair extensions put in my hair. Ok, so its not that crazy and they look subtle, but one of them is purple! So yeah! Rebellion all over that!

library shot! Classy, no? what is going on with my lips?!

My good friend Tatiana put them in for me! She was my next door neighbor in the dorm last year, and we have lived through a lot together... mice infestations, cleaning checks, sharing cooking supplies... we're tight. So when I heard she was doing feather hair extensions I was all on that! If you're in the Provo area and interested, go here.

i lack the ability to make non-deformed peace signs. I apologize.

Here's where you come in, loyal blog readers, friends, family, blog stalkers and strangers alike... I ask you for your suggestions:

What are some things I can do these next two weeks to fully live out my teenage dream!?!?!

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Today I walked into the boys bathroom...

I knew it looked different as soon as I walked in. Darker tiles. No pink.

This sign should have been more prominent.

Then I saw a boy blowing his nose at the sink.

His eyes got really big and he said "ahhhhhhh"

And then I turned bright red and said "ahhhhhhhhhh!" as I spun around and ran out the door to hide in the girls bathroom for ten minutes.

I wish I could say more but, seriously, I'm still getting over it. And what else is there to say, really?

CONSOLE ME.

The Night I Almost Got Shanked in a Laundry Room.

Once upon a time, mere hours before going home for Thanksgiving break, I was doing all of my laundry in the middle of the night. That’s just how I rolled when I was a freshman.

We were taking so many people in the car that we had no room to bring laundry home. And all my laundry was dirty. This is what led me to be creeping down the dark stairs into the dorm basement all alone at 3 a.m. to put my clothes in the dryer.

I opened the laundry room door. The light was on. Then a girl I had never seen before in my life came at me with a kitchen knife.

I screamed.

She stopped. Then she said “Sorry, it’s just for protection… You never know who could be down here in the middle of the night!"

Then she took her laundry and her knife and left me all alone in the dark, creaky laundry room.

And that is how I almost got shanked in a laundry room.

THE DAY I MET DAVID ARCHULETA!

Wednesday July 7, 2010

7:00 am: Alarm goes off and radio begins blaring loudly.

7:45 am: I wake up for the first time to blaring radio. Unconsciousness is a talent.

8:00 am: Remembering that today was the day I was going to meet David and that I had planned to be outside Deseret Book by now, I decide to get out of bed and get ready.

8:15 am: I actually get out of bed to get ready. Hey! I’m not a morning person ok?

9:40 am: I arrive at Deseret Book and scope out the line. It’s not even that long! I was nervous there’d too many people by now. I’m a little concerned that the only people I see are middle aged women and 12 year old girls. But then I’m happy because that means less competition because I’m actually David’s age! Holla!

9:46 am: I set up my little camp chair in line… psyched to start making friends and hang out ‘til my sisters get here.

9:47 am: I realize the girls ahead of me are really annoying. And there is a 50 year old man with a beer-belly behind me. Dang!

10:15 am: Pull out my notebook and begin brainstorming “Things to Say to David”

-Marry me.

-Marry me you beautiful hunk of soulful righteousness.

-Hi David.

-I love you.

10:20 am: Decide it would be best if I stopped brainstorming.

10:25 am: Look in bag for book. I packed A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to work on my goal to read good literature this summer. As an afterthought I also packed Meg Cabot’s cheesy The Boy Next Door. I begin reading The Boy Next Door. Obviously, I am a very cultured girl.

My classy book choice

10:45 am: Begin wondering why the heck my sisters aren’t here yet. But I’m enjoying the ambiance of multiple David Archuleta songs playing from iPhones all around me. Like the sounds of heaven!!

11:15 am: Sisters arrive with Little Caesar’s pizza. We chow down and pack away the stuff to get ready for David!!

11:30 am: Sarah and I head to the stage to get a good spot while Jess holds our place in line. Once we are in full sun, it is DANG HOT.

11:45 am: Anticipation is building. Word is that David is actually IN Deseret Book right now hidden away!! Eeeeeh!

11:50 am: Girls begin screaming at almost anyone coming out of Deseret Book with dark hair. Including a mom with a stroller. Confused old grandmas arriving to buy themselves new scripture cases wonder what the ruckus is about.

12:04 pm: DAVID COMES OUT! Screaming galore!! He jumps on stage and talks in his cute David voice and then starts singing “Crush.” Girls go wild!

TELL ME this doesn't make you crazy!

12:06 pm: In the middle of the song, the girl directly in front of me collapses from the heat onto the asphalt. She was limp almost by my feet, with her face on the hot ground. Ouch!! Her friend starts dumping cold water on her head to cool her down. Someone calls 911. Jess tells them they need to get her into the shade. I join several people to help lift her up.

Here’s the video: About 1:40 in she collapses and then the rest of the video I was just holding my camera up but not actually watching David. Listen for all the people saying "Call 911!" I stopped filming to help her up eventually, being the kindhearted person that I am.

12:10 pm: The girl passing out drama is behind us. I am bummed that I barely got to watch David sing. But then he says he’ll sing another song!! Hooray! And this one was WAY better. Man he can SING!

12:14 pm: My soul melts into goo. My heart explodes into a billion pieces of love. Needless to say, I am VERY glad that I’ve chosen David to be my husband.

12:16 pm: David goes inside and we all get in line for him to sign our book!

Sisters!

Yay for paramedics who come for girls with heat stroke!

12:20 pm: We decide it’s time to start brainstorming something to say to him, since we are about to meet him. I wanted to say something funny that would be memorable and make him laugh. But I FAIL at coming up with something. Sarah suggests “You are a really good singer!” Jess suggests “We came to your concert last summer!” My dad suggests, through a text, “What kind of deodorant do you wear?”

12:21 pm: I make mental note to find a new family.

12:40 pm: We are standing FEET AWAY from David Archuleta! Sarah asks me what I’m going to say. I say “I DON’T KNOW! I’M BLANKING HERE!”

12:42 pm: We meet David Archuleta.

I say, “How are you?”

He says, “Good, how are you?”

I say, “Good. How do you like Las Vegas?”

He says, “I like it!”

I say, “Can we take a picture?”

“Uhhh….”

We take a picture with him anyway. Then leave.

I AM SMOOTH FOLKS. LIKE SILK. AND CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER.

Well, here’s my thinking. It was conversational!!! I mean, when people meet their future husbands for the first time, it’s only natural to ask how they are doing!!! Am I right or am I right???

I am right. Thank you.

He would have fallen madly in love with me. He was just really worn out from seeing all those OTHER girls who WEREN’T his future wife. It’s understandable really. He was exhausted. Those other girls were exhausting ME and I’m not even David Archuleta. Obviously, NEXT time I meet him we will fall madly in love. Once I’m done with school and he is settled in his music career and we are both ready to get married and have beautiful little children.

And then David and I will look back on the day we first met at the Deseret Book and laugh at how awkward and adorable it was. I FINALLY HAVE A REAL NON-PHOTO-SHOPPED PICTURE OF ME WITH DAVID!! And how fitting that the wall behind us is covered in pictures of the temple....

Excuse me while I go pick out our wedding colors...
