Dreams.

Saturday night I had a dream that my whole ward was going on a fishing trip together. Everyone was all loaded up in tons of cars in the parking lot, ready to go, when I realized that I hadn't packed yet!! (ahh)

So I ran up to my apartment and grabbed a duffel bag and ran back down to the parking lot, but my duffel bag was empty. Everyone was like: Amy!!! Hurry up and get your stuff!

So I ran back upstairs and got my toothbrush, and ran back down, but realized I needed clothes too.

So I ran up and got socks and ran back down. Then I ran up and got pajamas and ran back down. Then I ran up and got jeans and ran back down. Needless to say, everyone was pretty upset with me. And needless to say, I woke up STRESSED.

this is a picture of me with a fish.
for your visual enjoyment.
not that it matters, but I caught 7 that day
(it matters)

Then, last night I had a dream that I was at Subway and I asked for a six inch sub with ham. Instead, the lady took out a flatbread and put an entire rotisserie chicken on it. I was like, "No, I wanted bread with ham!" And so then she made me a meatball sub. And I was like, "NO! I wanted HAM!" And then she called the police and they arrested me.

Not that I'm a dream interpreter or anything, but what I gather from these dreams is that I am a little too stressed out lately. (Also: I eat way too much Subway.)

Cousin's Play to Wedding Day!

I am definitely a fan of people getting married, especially when I am invited to the festivities. And especially when there are beautiful decorations to ogle over. And triply especially when delicious food is involved.

Earlier this week, my cousin Melissa tied the knot with her main-man Bryan at the Salt Lake Temple. (to learn more about temples, go here.)

Melissa grew up in Salt Lake. I grew up in Las Vegas. Therefore, we didn't get to hang out a lot. But I remember being pen pals with her for a while when we were little and getting letters from her. When I went to visit Utah, we would play ping pong in Grandma's basement and dress up in old clothes from the 40's.

And once, we went to a pioneer village and Melissa provoked an angry chicken and then we had to run from it. It made the day memorable.

Mel and I circa 1999. On a horse. In heavy shade.
Big HOLLA to Jess for finding this picture for me! :)

And now, years later, Melissa is a married woman! A funny one at that. A while after she came out of the temple, she said, "I hope you write about this on your blog!!"

Anything for you girl. I mean, we survived that angry chicken together. After we lived through that,I feel like we have to be there for each other.

M + B

Sarah, Jess and I basking in the wedded bliss of the day.

I loved her beautiful, vintage-y dress, and I loved her classy dinner. She has a unique style of her own and I admire that she planned everything to reflect her own tastes.

Isn't it fun to appreciate the different styles and ideas from different weddings? I love it. This is coming from a girl who just spent her Friday night at home watching Say Yes to the Dress and eating chips and salsa. (Shut up, I'm cool...)

Congrats Melissa and Bryan! May your married life together be full of love and happiness, and not too many angry chickens. Although with spunky Mel, you never know.

You know what I miss?

My Olympic spirit glasses.

you couldn't help but feel joy while wearing them.

Lovingly invented and constructed last year during the Winter Olympics and worn with pride for many an Olympics watching sesh.

my birthday plus Olympic spirit glasses? A winning combo.

Then brutally destroyed by an accidental sitting-upon. I am still in mourning.

London 2012 Summer Olympics... I am eagerly waiting for you to come so that I can construct a new pair of Olympic Spirit glasses... maybe even with a little British flair??

Construction paper has never been so beautiful.

McCeption.

You know how in the movie Inception, Leo explains that while you're in a dream, everything seems real and you don't even realize that it doesn't make sense?

Case in point: my dream from two nights ago.

I was with this friend of mine that I have a class with, and we were standing in line at McDonalds. But this wasn't happy McDonalds. This was a dark, scary McDonalds. This was the Communist Russia of McDonalds. It was large and dark and cold and absolutely packed with unhappy people. Tensions were running high.

We reached the counter and I ordered a cheeseburger and a drink. As we worked our way down the line, the worker put out a miniscule burger and tiny little paper cup. Then she told me the price. $10.50. Six dollars for the two-bite burger and 4.50 for the drink.

I looked ahead. All the people were taking this blow to the wallet one after another and shuffling out of the line, dejected and sorrowful. Something overcame me and I suddenly became outraged.

I turned quickly towards the cashier. "Ummm, excuse me! Would you look at that cheeseburger? Its TINY. I am not going to pay 10 dollars for that!!"

The McDonald's worker called her manager, and the room fell into a hush as this commanding woman approached the other side of the counter with a no-nonsense attitude. She had power. No. She was power. People were afraid.

I swallowed my fear. Trembling, I pointed to the cheeseburger and yelled "That’s not worth six dollars!"

"Hand over the money. NOW," she roared.

"NEVER!!!!!"

The room fell silent. We looked each other square in the eye.

In a speech equal to those of FDR, Churchill and Barack Obama himself, I began listing all the other food places at which I could get way more food for $10.50. "At Applebees, I could have a chicken fingers platter AND a drink! I could get a Café Rio pork salad with chips and salsa! I could buy TEN Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers at Wendy's! And those are all better than this tiny, crappy cheeseburger!!!"

The crowd was captivated. I felt empowered.

"WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THIS!" I screamed.

Out of nowhere, I became a leader. I led the crowd of hundreds out of that McDonalds and we marched in the streets.

I went through the rest of my discombobulated dream, which included random people from different parts of my life who somehow knew each other, as I made my way through a skyscraper and a community college that I had never been to, and the beach. Everywhere I went, people were impressed by me. I was the girl who stood up to the McDonald's manager. I was a hero.

I woke up with a feeling of triumph. I could have busted out "We Are the Champions" right off my pillow.

Then, I remembered it was a dream. And not only that, my moment of victory took place in a McDonalds and involved a cheeseburger. My triumph slipped away pretty quickly.

Ok… who incepted me?

'Fess up now… you don't wanna mess with me. Look what happened to the McDonald's manager...

I'm pretty sure she's in a dark place right now.

Teenage Dream.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am only going to be a teenager for two.... more... weeks....

Actually, LESS than two weeks! Two weeks from today I will be twenty!

Bahhgurslfheithghsl... (<--- that's not German, that's me being angsty about the end of my teenage years.) Most people would be excited about turning twenty, but I am not. I LIKE being a teenager, ok!? It makes me feel young, gives me an excuse to still be a little kid when I want to be, and scares away older boys from dating me, which is sometimes an advantage at BYU. Twenty is like, being an ADULT. What is that?!?!?

Bahh.

I have been a teenager since the day I turned 13 all the way back in seventh grade. I can barely remember what I was like before I turned a teenager! I was just a tiny little deathly shy girl with scrawny little legs who wore gold-rimmed glasses and straight bangs. That's who I was when I turned a teenager. I feel like almost everything that defines who I am today happened since then! Being a teenager is all I know!!

Not only that, but I was a really good teenager! I mean, I'm glad I was good and didn't get into trouble, but did I waste my chance at rebellion?! Should I have been a little more {harmlessly} crazy? I mean, my friends and I had tons of fun times, but did I really take advantage of being a teenager?! Should I have died my hair pink? Worn more outrageous clothing? Broken curfew more often?

HAVE I WASTED MY YOUTH??????????

Luckily, 'tis not too late. I have two weeks. :)

I am dedicating the next thirteen days to living up my last chance at being a teenager!! I started today, by getting feather hair extensions put in my hair. Ok, so its not that crazy and they look subtle, but one of them is purple! So yeah! Rebellion all over that!

library shot! Classy, no? what is going on with my lips?!

My good friend Tatiana put them in for me! She was my next door neighbor in the dorm last year, and we have lived through a lot together... mice infestations, cleaning checks, sharing cooking supplies... we're tight. So when I heard she was doing feather hair extensions I was all on that! If you're in the Provo area and interested, go here.

i lack the ability to make non-deformed peace signs. I apologize.

Here's where you come in, loyal blog readers, friends, family, blog stalkers and strangers alike... I ask you for your suggestions:

What are some things I can do these next two weeks to fully live out my teenage dream!?!?!

Help Me Aunt Jemima, You're My Only Hope

I'm not a bad cook.

I've been making grilled cheese sandwiches and scrambled eggs for myself since I was eight years old, buttering and assembling and frying in my tiny little pan with a pride that could not be crushed by my friends who were still eating cold peanut butter sandwiches for lunch.

I progressed from there, learning to make macaroni and cheese, rice dishes, spaghetti with Prego, Alfredo noodles from a packet. I helped my mom make dinner sometimes, chopping the vegetables for stir fry, watching pots for her, and mashing the potatoes once in a while.

She taught me how to make my favorite meals and I got better at making them as I got older: sweet and sour pork, tacos, beef stroganoff, stir fry, meatloaf. I took a cooking class in high school where I learned to make homemade cream sauces, pot roast, rolls, delicious pulled pork sandwiches, salsa chicken....

I can follow a recipe. I feel pretty confident in the kitchen. I usually eat pasta or taquitos or frozen chicken for dinner, but I know I could cook if I took the time to buy the ingredients to make real meals and spend more than 10 minutes in the kitchen a night. I could. Or at least I tell myself that as I heat up a frozen dinner at nine o'clock at night...

But one thing humbles me without fail:

Breakfast food.

I can't make it. Ever.

Omelets turn into scrambled eggs. Fried eggs turn into rubber. Hash browns either burn to a crisp or float in the pan like sad, soggy failure. Bacon burns black. The sausage usually comes out okay, but where's the satisfaction in cooking decent sausage links? No where. Waffles crumble or burn.

And pancakes, Oh the pancakes.

Whether too thick or too thin, too burnt or too light, gooey in the center, crumbly, tough, tasteless, lumpy, or plain disgusting, I have NEVER made a decent pancake. It haunts me.

I tried again this afternoon for lunch. This is what I got:

A pile of crumbles that tasted worse than flour paste.

New requirement for future husband: MUST COOK GOOD BREAKFAST FOOD. Or be willing to take me to IHOP once in a while.

Otherwise I am going to be living a sad life of cold cereal and oatmeal. Shiver.

The Day I Met David Archuleta: THE SEQUEL

Oh hey.

Yeah. I met David Archuleta today!!!! Again. So I guess my plan is to just go get his autograph as many times as it takes to get him to fall in love with me. Great plan, huh?

Proof.

The CD signing was at this little store in the mall and it wasn't even crowded, but the security people were CRAZY. They wouldn't let anyone stand within like a 20 foot perimeter of the store. They told me I couldn't even take a picture of David. But I did anyways. Gotta be a rebel sometimes!

Those ladies around him meant business...

Had to take a pic with the sign because I didn't get one with him. LAME.

Thanks to my friend Marci for inviting me to go along with her!!!!

I wasn't even nervous this time. It was like I was just talking to some boy I knew. He's a really chill person. But I didn't really say anything that interesting in the 10 seconds I had to talk to him.

How exactly is a girl to convey in a few sentences that "Hey! I'm a fan of yours and I think you're really cute and humble and we are actually the same age and have a lot in common, and I'm a fairly normal person and not a 12 year old fan like these other crazies and I think we should hang out sometime and possibly get married for all eternity" ??

What I really said:

Hey how are you? Good? Cool. Thanks so much, have a good one!

This marrying David Archuleta thing is harder than I thought.

Tonight's Gonna be a Good, Good Night!

Confession: I had a rotten week.

For reals guys, I am so glad this week is over. Usually finals don't phase me, but this week they slapped me in the face, and then kicked me in the butt and then pulled my hair and then drop-kicked me. And they won. I readily admit it. It was not pretty. But at least now they are just over!!!!

***cue hallelujah chorus****

And now instead of wallowing in my failure in life, its on to better days! Can I get a HOLLERRR???

Starting with today. Today is going to be a fantastic day because:

a. I am done with my finals!
b. My little sister is flying in tonight!
c. Tonight I am once again going to be in the presence of my future-hubby David Archuleta!!!

This picture is just too good to only be used once on this blog. So I treat you with it again. If it HAD been photo-shopped I'd have to give credit to my sister Jess. But that's totally hypothetical.

Thats right peeps, I'm chillin' with David tonight. Hopefully he will remember me from when I met him over the summer.

Oh heyyyyyy David!!

And when I say "chillin' with David", I really mean "being in the same room as David and 21,000 other people at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert..." But really that's a small detail to me.

Is there a better way to end a rotten week on a high note than:

Sister love + David Archuleta hotness + Motab + Christmas cheer?

I submit that there is not!

Aw Shucks... I've Been Tagged!

No, not with grafitti you sickos. BLOG TAGGED! Whee! I feel very honored. My beautiful, fashionable friend and former FHE sister Kailee tagged me on her blog today and now I am excited (and a little nervous?) to answer her questions. Lets go!

1. If you could only listen to one artist for the rest of your life, who would it be?

The Beatles. (Say it with a British accent though.) My moods in music change daily... some days I am listening to Micheal Buble all day and some days I am jamming to Eminem and hardcore rap. But I am ALWAYS in the mood for the Beatles. Plus, it reminds me of my daddy.

2. Do you/ did you sleep with a stuffed animal and what is it?

Yes? I used to I think. I had a ton of stuffed animals. They were my pretend friends. I think I slept with all of them at one time or another. (Wow that sentence definitely sounds a little trashy... But keep it clean folks.) I remember this purple dragon I used to have that smelled really weird. I really liked it. Nowadays I ALWAYS sleep with this little red Squish pillow*. I cannot sleep unless my arms are wrapped around something.
*Ashley M. likes using this pillow for other purposes bahahahaha.

3. What is your favorite Disney movie?

Cinderella! I just really really love Cinderella stories in general. And I think the Disney classic Cinderella movie is just so beautiful.

4. What is one thing in your life you regret doing or not doing?

I guess I kind of regret not always being more myself because I wasn't sure if people would like me for it. But no one really likes a quiet girl who agrees with everyone anyways. I could have had many more fun times if I'd been my funny self. Truth is, I'm a straight-up gangsta and I'm really fun!

5. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is definitely letting my true personality shine through. I love writing. And I am a fun-loving, sarcastic, gangsta person but sometimes I am shy and people don't even realize it. So I am glad more people are able to see me for who I am through this blog. A lot of people have told me they are surprised by my humor... guess they never knew the REAL me!

6. What is one of your most embarrassing moments?

Read this blog and you will find plenty. Grabbing a strange boy's thigh. Falling in a puddle of punch at a wedding reception. Wandering through campus with tears streaming down my face. Not to mention the time I fell into the organ pit up on the stand one time during seminary. And many, many more to come. I know its why you people read my blog! Don't act like you don't get pleasure from my pain!!! ;)

7. If you could change your name to something else, what would it be?

I would really like a gangsta name like A-mizzle Balla Holla Fershizzle so I could legitimately roam the streets of Provo and instill fear in others. Please check out this helpful (and extremely in depth) e-How article on how to create your gangster name. It is a superb resource.

8. What is one of your greatest accomplishments in life?

Hmm, I would have to say the one or two times I woke up early, ate breakfast, legitimately looked decent, and made it to class on time here at BYU over the last year. I have never been prouder. And it hasn't happened in a long, long while. And probably never will again! Holla!

Well, I hope you didn't have to grab your tissue box and hold hands and cry with your nearest friend as you read this post! Oh feelings....

I feel like I was just on Oprah...

Catching the Bouquet and the Fever

Last night I caught the bouquet at my friends wedding reception.

Today my mom started talking to me about planning my wedding.

I am scared.

But then I got in on it. I've always said I didn't really care about anything. But its kind of addicting to plan a dream wedding. And I've been working at a wedding chapel all summer, and talking to brides every day has kinda given me wedding fever. I mean, how can you see weddings every day and not think ahead to your own wedding?

Somehow I knew exactly what I want in ten minutes. I really want my colors to be baby blue with red accents. And the whole thing to have this 1940's vintage feel to it. With retro antiques as the centerpieces, like old type writers and rotary dial telephones and cool art from the 40's and 50's. And I want my bridesmaids to have blue dresses with red shoes and red flowers. And I want a blue sash around my wedding dress and blue flowers but red shoes. And I want an old fashioned veil.

I have it all figured out. I don't have a man yet, but that's okay because I do NOT want to get married until I am AT LEAST 24. (This is for you Ashley. Nanny nanny boo boo.)

Here are some pictures that I really like. Feel free to make fun of me all you want. Heck, if I were you I would definitely be mocking me right now for planning my wedding. In fact I'll be disappointed if no one tells me I'm too young to be looking at wedding stuff in the comments.

Me and David Archuleta are going to have to coolest wedding ever. *Sigh*

Well I better go, I can hear my dad's wallet crying.

When did YOU start planning your wedding? What will be/were your colors?

My Life Plan

Ah, youth. A time when we wonder where life will lead us, who will come into our lives and how our decisions will affect our futures.

Well at least for other youth. I am very fortunate to know EXACTLY how my life will play out.

1. I will finish my bachelors in elementary education at BYU while having a great time and never sleeping and feeling wonderful all the time!

2. Then I will receive an offer to teach at an inner-city school in New York City. I will change those children’s lives and they will make a movie about me, AND I will be a city girl and live in a walk-up apartment and wear high heels and take taxis and they will make another movie about that.

3. Then I will attend a David Archuleta concert with my BFFs and David will see me in the crowd and send one of his security guards to get me after the concert after which we will talk into the early hours of the morning and fall deeply in love.

4. Then we will get married (Amy Archuleta? NICE! ) and he will sing to me at the reception with his sweet, soulful, exquisitely magical voice.

5. We will have a million children and live happily ever after.

SO glad that’s all figured out!! People who fret over life decisions are just silly.
