As you all know, we are living in an election year. And so, from sea to shining sea, we are inundated with attack ads on TV with ridiculously sinister music, awkward political conversations, and spiteful Facebook posts.
I have my own opinions. They are probably different from yours, because what good is a democracy if everyone believes the same things? No good at all.
And even though I consider myself a highly opinionated person, I don't like to involve myself in political discussions... ever. I probably would if my input would be meaningful, like, say, the direct process of voting. I would if someone was open-minded and genuinely interested in my beliefs and opinions. But more often than not, I know that if I were to interject myself into a discussion, everyone would just stand their ground and argue.
So here is my procedure:
1. View ignorant, harsh, or over-exaggerated Facebook post.
2. Get a little angry.
3. Write out my witty, snappy reply in word (or sometimes just in my brain).
4. Pretend to post it, but not really post it.
5. Move on with life a happy person.
A few closing remarks:
That guy you are so viciously attacking? Yeah. He has a family. They love him. And you know what? He is probably a pretty good guy, and he probably is doing or planning to do what HE thinks is best for our country. Even if you think it's NOT the best thing. So while you vehemently disagree with him, please be somewhat respectful. Even if you think he is Satan. This statement applies to both candidates.
And while I believe the above is true, I also believe the following: Both candidates are literally insane. Why else would you want to be the President of the United States? There is no explanation for it. So while you stand behind your guy, remember: HE. IS. INSANE.
see how politically neutral I just was? be impressed.
One more thing: We love democracy because it allows us to participate in the political process and retain our freedoms so we can live happy lives. If your life revolves around being angry about politics, you aren't doing it right. Unless you just really enjoy political obsession, in which case, knock yourself out.
So be informed, be involved, but be kind and understanding. People have different opinions than you. Get over it.
I lied. One more thing: There are two main political parties in America. If you outright attack or insult an entire political party at once, you are basically attacking half of America. Probably including some of your family members, neighbors, co-workers, and friends.
United we stand? Lets work on that, homies.
Love,
Amy
PS: bring on the haters. JK, please be nice, I'm actually kind of a wimp. peace and love to all.

I almost didn't read this because of the title. I'm so sick of the posts you're talking about! Couldn't agree more.
I love the 'they are insane' comment because it's true. They must be. Who'd want to be President? Who WANTS that job? I wouldn't, I tell you. Headache, stress and heart attack on a plate. I agree with you when it comes to politics; I just don't go there anymore.
I once made a tiny comment on Facebook and it blew up into a 50 post comment thread over night. It was ridiculous and I hated every single person who commented after that...just kidding ;)...but it really annoyed me that people felt they had the right to rip into each other in the name of politics and asserting their views.
Love this. Partisanship is reaching rabid proportions, and it needs to stop before we kill each other over stupid policy issues.
