Surgery is History.

Great news, everyone: Surgery is over! Yay yay yay yay yay. SIGH OF RELIEF. And even better, I am off the pain meds that made me cray cray and starting my road to recovery! Happy times over here.

Some snippets of my experience:

When I envisioned having surgery, I saw myself falling asleep peacefully in a comfy hospital bed surrounded by my parents, and then waking up in the same hospital bed an hour later with my parents smiling down upon me. When I found myself laying on a cold, hard surgery table with huge bright lights over my face instead, I was a little shaken. Literally, I started to tremble like a little leaf. I could not be more grateful for the amazing, loving doctor that performed my surgery. When he saw me shaking, he walked over and picked up my hand and held it until I fell asleep. I felt so peaceful in his care.

My surgery took twice as long as expected, because the doctor had to remove connective tissue from my knee that wasn't even supposed to be in my knee! Weird, huh? Yup, it's how I roll.

I woke up in the recovery room and I was in so. much. pain.  Like, almost more pain that I could even understand. This is not a huge statement, because I admittedly have a very low pain tolerance and haven't experienced too many painful things. (#wimpstatus) But the doctor said he usually fills the knee with lydocaine to completely numb it after surgery, but since I am allergic to lydocaine (seriously? yes.) I had the privilege of waking up from surgery with no pain medication. yay! The anesthesiologist injected me with a giant needle of painkiller in my thigh and they gave me some morphine, and after 10 minutes of moaning or so, I felt.... okay-ish!

The nurses were the kindest people ever. I have such a new appreciation for nurses now! They really are just all about helping people... shoutout to my nursing student friends! You rock.

Well anyway, this is getting lengthy... long story short, an nice elderly lady pushed me in a wheelchair to my dad's car later that day, and then I slept for three days straight. Literally. If I wasn't eating or going to the bathroom, I was sleeping.

You know those times when you are sooooo busy and you're like, "Man, I wish I could just sleep for three days straight!"  Yeah, now I can say that I have! And it was really not that fun. Haha. The pain meds made me so confused. I could not understand a single thing I read. One time my miom was like, "You should try watching a TV show!" And I was like, "Okay!" And then I didn't understand any of it and I fell asleep 10 minutes in.

Conclusion: drugs are bad.

Sooo many people have been nice to me! I can't believe how great my friends and family are, it makes me want to cry. So THANK YOU for the flowers, care packages, treats, and cards! Y'all know who you are.

Well anyways, now I'm off the pain meds, and I am getting around on crutches okay-ish. For now my life consists of spending 23 1/2 hours of each day on the couch with greasy hair. And I am always so TIRED. It's super fun!

Later today my mom and I are going to maybe venture off to a fabric store, and she's going to push me around in our borrowed wheelchair so I can pick out cute ribbon to make baby headbands. WHEN DID MY LIFE GET SO SWAG?

But really I feel blessed. And that is the concise ending to this rambling drug induced but not really because I swear I'm off the pain meds blog post.
